Money Blog Site

I have been working a lot on websites lately, obviously not this one, but that will change. I told myself I would finish my Dad’s site before I worked on any of mine, but I didn’t stick to that. I have his site about 70% complete, but there is a lot of maintenance work I want to do on it. I need to fix his contact page, and I need to finish his products page. The products page has nothing on it, and the contact page just needs some validation. I also would like to change his logo a bit as it looks kind of blurry.

The big thing I want to do to his site is convert it to use CSS. I have never used CSS before, but I am looking through a few tutorials, and it seems pretty straight forward. His site would actually be a good candidate for CSS, so I going to take the next few days to convert it. After that, touch up a few things, and I will be done with it. I am also using his site as a starting point for me getting into AdWords. I have never used AdWords before, so I need to run through all the tutorials, but I will probably use AdWords (along with the Yahoo and MSN versions) for his site, this site, and my money making sites.

I have a few projects in the works designed at making me money. One involves the domain I was trying to buy, and then I backordered. That has since fell through as the owner re-registered it, and now I am SOL. I still have the .info domains, and I will be going live with those by the end of next week (hopefully). I am in the process of writing some web crawlers that will help me with two of my money making ideas. More about these after they go live, as I do not want anyone stealing my ideas.

I am also in the process of thinking of a good company name. All my ideas involve my initials, and I just don’t like that. I wanted to come up with a name that I could use on all my sites. I would put Created By:BLAH at the bottom of the sites, and maybe get some business designing other websites from it.

That is all I have for now. There will be more info when more of my ideas go live.

You have to check out this blog. The graphic design download fast and furious 4 HD alone is enough reason to check it out, but the content is very good too. The site is basically a smörgåsbord of interesting and funny content. He has a post about the 5 Most Additive Games, which I got hooked on Number 2 - Desktop Defense - last night.

The design is what really draws you into the site though. The RSS feed button and Technorati button jump out at you. (If I can borrow those and use them on my site, let me know.) Even the re-designs that were done for other blogs are amazing.

The only thing I would suggest is to try to get more content out. While one post a day is very good, I was so drawn to the site, it would be nice to see more.

The reason I am reviewing his site (along with the fact that it is a must see, must read) is that if I have the best review, I can get a full blog re-design. If I have the second best review, I get a new FavIcon, which I badly need. You can also enter the contest, but please, do not write a better review than mine!

I have contacted everyone in the Tournament and asked for posts. I have received posts from 18 bloggers, so I still have a ways to go. If I get enough, I will start posting the “matches” tomorrow, since the First Round will have 32.

I included a Master Page for Blog Madness which will hold all the information on the Tournament. The page includes Rules, Bracket, and a list of the participating blogs.

Start spreading the word because Thursday the tournament begins. Most votes will advance to the next round. Winner will get some prime advertising space on a decent website.

SlashMySearch is a search engine that gives you money for searching. You can make 25 cents an hour just for using their search engine as opposed to Google or Yahoo. While this may seem like another pyramid scheme like Cash Duck, it is just another way to make some easy money (by the way, I am up to over $55 with Cash Duck). The payout structure is shown below:

Now, this search engine is not even close to being as good as Google or Yahoo. Here are the reasons why you should not use it:

1. It is very very slow. This is nice because you get money for time using the search engine, but if you are in a hurry for results, this is the wrong site.
2. If you want results, this is not the place. 80% of the time, the search returns 0 results.
3. The search will return 1 page of results, and there will be a link for a next page. There is never anything on the next page.
4. The search usually returns 1 decent result and a bunch of irrelevant results.
5. The search results are very outdated.

While those are all good reasons to not use this site, the reason I use it is because you get paid for it. I just set it as my homepage, and every time I bring up my homepage, I get paid. It may not be much as I am up to only 20 cents so far, but it is better than nothing (20 cents in 2 days work, $3 a month) .  I also sometimes search for something using SlashMySearch, then do the same search in Google for real. If I can make a couple of dollars a month with this, I think it will be worth it. If they can improve the searching, it will really be worth.

CompUSA is closing over 100 of their stores in the next 60 to 90 days. Many of them are having some great sales. A computer nerd, like myself, is very excited about this, though they are not closing any in my area. Here is a list of all the stores that are closing. Like any liquidation, the closer it gets to closing day, the better the deals, but also, the less product they will have.

My only question is whether the online prices will also drop.
