I get a call this afternoon from some strange number, a 480 area code. I didn’t answer it because I was outside working on my daughter’s swingset, but they left a voicemail. It was a customer service rep from GoDaddy asking me if I had any questions pertaining to the domain purchase I made. This is the first company that I had purchased a product from them to ever call me. Took me by surprise. I have liked GoDaddy since I bought the .info domains for 99 cents, and this just adds to it. I may give the guy a call back because I backordered a domain, and I wanted some more information on how that works. I will talk about that more this weekend as I tell more about my other internet endeavors.

I don’t really have a problem with Payday Loans. I know a lot of people see them as evil, but I don’t. Let me give you mine perspective:

I view a Payday Loan as loans that people desperately need. Say I need $1000 right now, but I don’t have it. My next paycheck for $1000 is coming in 1 week, but I can’t wait that week. That is where a payday loan comes in. It is a small bit of money that people need right away. If people need this money so bad, why can’t the payday loans companies have high interest rates.

They are taking a big risk of these people. These people obviously have no money, and are living paycheck to paycheck. These people would seem to have a high probability of defaulting on their loans. Payday loan companies are such that, companies. They are in it to make money. People need payday loan companies for the services they provide. If the interest rates are real high, then shop around. But most people in that situation don’t have time to shop around. They need money, and they need it fast.

Before you persecute these companies, you need to realize that they are making money.  This means people are going to them for loans.  If these companies are so sleazy and wrong, then why do people keep going back for more.  They see a need, and they fill it.  I do not see anything wrong with this.  Complaining about a company will do nothing, but taking an action will.  I complain about the Cable company in my area all the time, but they are the only Cable company, so I am stuck.  I think their prices are too high, but they are the service around me, so I am stuck.

I just mentioned I was going to convert my Dad’s site to use CSS, so I thought I would add a few of the tutorials that I have gone through.

• Sitepoint - Breaking out of the Box
  • This one really got me interested in CSS and what it can do. I figure I will probably design most of my sites with a box-like look. May not be the best tutorial, but very good information.

  • This tutorial had a ton of information about CSS, but it was way too much to process in one sitting. It is a very good reference though if I ever need help, I go back there and pick up the information.

As you can see, I had a little set back in my push to get out of the negative.  This was mostly due to Easter, traveling, and building a swingset for my daughter.  But thankfully, my wife and I have turned our spending ways around and are back on he right track.  I am planning on one more big ticket item, the server and operating system I mentioned earlier, and than I am done spending until the baby comes in June.  That sure isn’t going to help the networth.

Do kids count for the net worth?  I am sure if they do, they would be a liability.

I wrote to GoDaddy.com to ask why they had the domain registered, and the support representative gave me a very information reply:

• 0 to 42 days later the Registrar releases the domain to the Registry
• The domain is held for 30 days by the Registry (Redemption Period)
• The domain takes 5 days to be released
• The domain is available for new registration

A domain is not immediately available after the expiration date. It will take at least 35 to 85 days after the expiration date before Domain Alert Pro will be able to attempt to register the domain on your behalf. Until that time, the domain is not available as a new registration.

I thought this was some very good info to pass along, as I knew absolutely none of this before I emailed GoDaddy. They also said that because GoDaddy is not the only company that backorders domain, I am not guaranteed the domain. There are three possibilites:

1. I successfully backorder the domain, and it is mine.
2. I do not get the domain because someone with a different backorder company registered it first.
3. Since there is more than one backorder, the domain will go up for auction

I was receiving over 75 SPAM messages a day, but I was not taking any steps to stop it. Well, I finally got sick of it, so I took these steps. Here is an update of my SUCCESS!

I have only gotten about 50 SPAM comments since I started using Akismet. This is a dramatic decline in the number of SPAM comments. Akismet has also caught all of the SPAM except for one. It has also allowed all non-SPAM through. I do not know if the spammers were just looking for sites without SPAM blockers, but just activating Akismet has made a world of difference.

I would suggest that everyone activate Akismet as soon as possible. The time saved by not having to search through the countless porn and insurance comments is well worth it.

If you have poked around on my blog before, you would have noticed that I bought myself some stock from ShareBuilder using their promotional codes. I used a $50 promotional code and bought $46 of Frontline (FRO) stock. I had to pay $4 for the trade. I received the $50 back a few weeks later, so basically, I got this stock for free.

The stock has been on it’s way up. It had a little dip a month or so back, but it is up almost 3 points since I bought it. I did not buy this stock because I thought the stock price would rise, but that is always an added plus. I bought this stock because of the high dividend it was paying. When I bought it, the dividend was $2.50 a share. I thought this was too good to be true. But I researched the company and saw that they shipped oil, so I knew that had a good quarter because of the high oil prices. I also saw they were doing good things with their money like reinvesting in the company and buying other companies.

My First Dividend

My first dividend came around, and it was not what I was hoping. I was hoping for $2.50 a share or more. The dividend this quarter was only $2.05 a share, which is still very good. I also noticed that they were giving away stock from another company. With every 28 shares of Frontline, you would get 3 shares of Ship Finance International (SFL). I did not think I would get any stock as I did not have 28 shares of Frontline.

To my surprise, I got some shares of SFL. I received over $4 worth of stock (around .15 shares). They also have a decent dividend of around 8%. ShareBuilder also has it where your dividends are automatically reinvested, so I gained another .1 shares of Frontline. This may not seem like much, but you have to remember I am doing this all with FREE stock. My portfolio is almost up to $60, a 20% return in a span of 3 months.

I am thinking about investing some of my house savings in Frontline and other high dividend stocks. I have another post coming down the road about the high dividend stocks I am researching.
