mighty wind a dvd
I picked up this book at the library when I went this week. This was my first visit to the library in my area, and I was a little disappointed with their book selection (The main library is closed down and that library has a far better selection). Since it was my first time, I was only allowed to pick up one book, so I wanted to make it a good one. The only book in the finance section that I saw that I had seen online was Freakonomics. My Money Blog did a review of this book, and that is why when I saw it I had to pick it up (something was triggered in my head that said I had saw it on a finance blog).
But ALERT, this is not a Finance book.
Although it is a decent book, it really has nothing to do with finance. The book takes the way experts look at economics and applies it to other more interesting things. The very first article really brings you into the book by using, as an example, the crime wave that was supposed to happen in 1995. The experts said the worse crime wave ever was supposed to happen in 1995, but it didn’t. When it didn’t, the experts said it had to do with the economy and a few other reasons. The real reason was because abortion was legalized in 1973. Since people were getting abortions, the children that were going to grow up to be criminals were never born. It was pretty interesting.
Other than this, the book issemi-entertaining. There were some interesting facts that were revealed. I did not read the whole book as it was 200 pages and really only needed to be 20. They really drug out the issues they covered and kept going back to the well way too often. They were two chapters about how to be the perfect parent, but mid-way through the chapter, I just stopped reading. I was just bored with this book and found only the first ten pages of each chapter to be interesting.
I give this book a Rent, but Do Not Buy. I would rent it, skim through it for the interesting info, then return it. It was a neat idea, but not executed that well.
