Expired Domains and BackOrdering

I wrote to GoDaddy.com to ask why they had the domain registered, and the support representative gave me a very information reply:

  • 0 to 42 days later the Registrar releases the domain to the Registry
  • The domain is held for 30 days by the Registry (Redemption Period)
  • The domain takes 5 days to be released
  • The domain is available for new registration

A domain is not immediately available after the expiration date. It will take at least 35 to 85 days after the expiration date before Domain Alert Pro will be able to attempt to register the domain on your behalf. Until that time, the domain is not available as a new registration.

I thought this was some very good info to pass along, as I knew absolutely none of this before I emailed GoDaddy. They also said that because GoDaddy is not the only company that backorders domain, I am not guaranteed the domain. There are three possibilites:

  1. I successfully backorder the domain, and it is mine.
  2. I do not get the domain because someone with a different backorder company registered it first.
  3. Since there is more than one backorder, the domain will go up for auction

If Number 3 happens, I am screwed as I am cheap and do not want to pay a ton of money. My only chance is Number 1. Wish me luck.

Trade Links

If anyone in the Blogosphere/Webosphere would like to trade links with a PR4 blog, just let me know. I know I am full of myself since I got the PR4 status, but I received a request to trade links yesterday, and I thought why not share the love.

You don’t even have to review my site, but if you want to you can.  Just throw a link on your site, and I will put one on mine.  I know that probably makes me a link whore, but I am all about the traffic and rankings.

Comment on this post or send me an email and I will put your link on my BlogRoll. Then if you return the favor, we will both be making our blogs a little better. More traffic and better rankings can’t hurt, can they?

Google Page Rank - 4

PageRank Checker

I went over to How I Save Money because I had not visited in a while, and noticed there was a post about Google Page Rank. I have not checked this site’s PageRank in a while to see if I had one, so I went to the instant pagerank checker.  My PageRank was 4!  I only thought I would get a rank of 3, but to my surprise, it was 4.  Hopefully this will open up some more wallets when it comes to the sale of this domain/website.

Last Week

This may be the last week that I own MoneyBlogSite.com.  I currently have my auction to sell my domain ending Sunday at 7 EDT.  The bid is not as high as my reserve, so it may not sell after Sunday.  Hopefully, the other bidders are just waiting until the end of the suction to throw out their high bids.

I may be posting this week, and I may not be.  The reason I was posting this past week was I wanted traffic to continue to climb, but I also had a few last things to get off my chest.  I probably will be doing another blog, but it won’t be tied down to just money.  It was too hard coming up with money items to right about, especially since I was a newbie at it.   I am, however, going to dive head first into the world on online moneymaking.  I have 3 or 4 good ideas that I will start working on, and if I start another blog, I will share those.

For Sale - Still

The site is still up for sale.

I have an auction over at Sitepoint where the current bid is $100, and you can Buy It Now for $5,000. I changed the end of auction date to a week earlier because I want to get started on my other endeavors. The auction now ends May 6 at 7:00 PM EDT.

If you do want to buy my domain, I will throw the site in if you want. I can also host the site for you, for a fee.

For Sale

images4.jpg

I have decided to put my blog up for sale. I just don’t have the hour a day plus to keep with the content. I am also pursuing other internet possibilities that will require more programming.

If you would like to make an offer, you can comment on this post, or email me:

Combating SPAM - Update

images3.jpg

I was receiving over 75 SPAM messages a day, but I was not taking any steps to stop it. Well, I finally got sick of it, so I took these steps. Here is an update of my SUCCESS!

I have only gotten about 50 SPAM comments since I started using Akismet. This is a dramatic decline in the number of SPAM comments. Akismet has also caught all of the SPAM except for one. It has also allowed all non-SPAM through. I do not know if the spammers were just looking for sites without SPAM blockers, but just activating Akismet has made a world of difference.

I would suggest that everyone activate Akismet as soon as possible. The time saved by not having to search through the countless porn and insurance comments is well worth it.

Link Ladder

I started my Link Ladder during the Blog Madness, so I didn’t have a chance to write about it, but here is the skinny. The Link Ladder is located on the top right sidebar of this website. It currently has 5 links in it, as I gave these links away for free. I wanted a way to start the Ladder, so I thought giving away these links would help jump start the process.

The premise behind the Link Ladder is that people pay to have their links put on the Ladder.   Currently, if you paid me 1 cent, you would get the top spot on the Link Ladder.  Then it would take 2 cents to get the top spot, and so on.  I got this idea from a few other sites, but their sites were completely devoted to the idea.  I just wanted a cool way to do some advertising.

What you get out of the deal

You will get advertising on a website that is below the 300,000 rank on Alexa.  I also receive close to 50 visitors a day (it was over 100 two weeks ago, and hopefully, it will go back up).   I will also keep a list of the links on the Link Ladder page.  The list will be kept for historical reasons.  When a new site gets the top spot, I will write a post with a short review for that website.

It is a win-win situation.  You get cheap advertising on a website that has incredible potential.  I get a little bit of extra money to put back into this site.

Windows Vista

I am thinking about upgrading my computer / operating system to replace my current desktop. I currently have a HP Presario that I got for around $170. It served well as a home PC, but I think I will be looking for a Server this time.  The reason behind this is that I use my desktop as a server anyway.  My wife and I both have laptops, and our office is off the garage, meaning I have to go into the garage to get into the office.  I use my PC for file storage and to host a website.

Before I buy the Server, I would like to buy the operating system for the server. I want to start hosting my own websites (the plural being the key). I have a few ideas in the works for some money-making sites. Hosting my blog would be nice too, since I have had all that trouble with my hosting company. I have been shopping for a Microsoft product, but those prices are way too high. Windows Server 2003 costs around $700, and even Small Business Server is over $300. I wanted Windows Server because I have taken classes on it and know how to use it. I also have Exchange 2003 so I can set up my own email address for my domains.

I have since turned my search over to Vista. Apparently IIS 7.0 (Vista and Longhorn’s version) has fixed all the problems with IIS 5.1, XP’s version. IIS 5.1 will not let you host more than one website. It will, but you have to have a work around. It also will not allow more than 10 connections at a time. With some tweaking, you can get up to 39 connections at a time, but that is still the max.

images2.jpg

For my money-making websites, I would like over 1,000 visitors a day, and that 39 connections at a time might not work. I would like to not use the workaround for hosting more than 1 domain at a time.

Vista Business was only about $155, and Vista Ultimate was only $200. If anyone has any comments or experience with Vista, let me know. I have found it had to do research on it as it is scattered across the net.

I Am Back

If you haven’t noticed from the massive amount of posts, I am back. I did not want to post during my Blog Madness tournament, as I wanted the Tournament to be center stage. I had fun putting on the Tournament, and I did get some benefits:

  • I found a lot of interesting PF Blogs that I now frequent.
  • I got a bunch of links to my site and a lot of traffic. The traffic really slowed down as of late. I was averaging over 100 visitors a day, but after the Sweet Sixteen I was only getting around 30. Hopefully now that I am back to regular posts, my traffic will increase.
  • My blog got a ton of comments.  I do not know if this helps my blog in anyway, but I like the idea of having over 3 times as many comments as posts.

While the tournament was going, I started to search the internet for more blogs and more websites. I will be posting about the interesting ones that I find, i.e. Tyler Cruz. There are a few more I have lined up, and more I still need to write. I also have been storing up ideas for posts, and those will be coming out soon. I have a huge whiteboard at home filled with ideas.

My goal from this point on is expand this blog as much as I can.  This blog will have it’s 3 month anniversary soon.  I am still waiting for a Page Rank, but I think that could be coming soon.  I have broke the 300,000 rank on Alexa.  I am also on my way to breaking the 100,000 mark on Technorati.  More than anything, I would like to bring better content to the blogosphere.  I have some great articles lined up, and hopefully from this point on, I reach higher level of informative content.
